Don?t unpack the Christmas bong: Florida still not ready to legalize pot

TALLAHASSEE ? One of the (chicken) nuggets from today?s Quinnipiac University poll is that Florida voters don?t appear ready to follow Colorado?and Washington down the path of legalizing ?marijuana use just yet.

The poll found 52 percent of registered voters were against the idea of legalizing pot while 42 percent supported the idea. Shockingly, those with college degrees saw it differently (hazily?): the split there was 46-to-47 percent, and among white, college-educated voters, it was supported 48-to-45 percent.

The age split is perhaps most interesting: Voters aged 18-29 were also supportive: 54-to-43 percent. Voters in the 30-44 range were also OK with it (50-to-43 percent). The Baby Boomer age group of 45-64 is still trying to pretend the ?70s never happened, and are evenly split at 47-46 percent.

But seniors are the real buzz-kill: they oppose?legalizing?pot?20-to-74 percent, supporting the hypothesis that most grandparents will not be interested in smoking up with the kiddies this holiday season.

No word on whether Quinnipiac has the head-shopper, Tallahassee, Gainesville, and?Taco Bell Fourth-Meal demographic breakdowns just yet.
