Tamim Iqbal declared fit for second Test ? Cricket News Roundup ? Part II ? November 20, 2012

Bangladesh Cricket team was on Tuesday boosted by the news of their prolific opener Tamim Iqbal being declared fit for the second and final Test match against West Indies, starting at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, Khulna on November 21.

"He felt fine batting in the nets and we think he is fit to play tomorrow," Bangladesh cricket team physio Vibhav Singh told reporters today.

The hard-hitting left-handed opening batsman from Chittagong was a doubtful starter for the series decider due to an elbow niggle, which he had picked up while batting in the first innings of the lost Dhaka Test. The BCB selectors had also called uncapped Khulna Division batsman, Anamul Haque as Tamim?s cover. But the 23-year-old batsman passed a fitness test on the eve of the match, and will in all probability open the innings for the hosts in the series finale.

Out of form Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi, on Monday ended his contract with Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Sydney Thunders, despite being cleared by the Pakistan Cricket Board to play in Australia?s premier Twenty20 league.

The flamboyant Pakistan all-rounder, who is enduring an extending lean patch, shared that he opted out of the BBL to play in Pakistan?s domestic league in a bid to regain the lost form ahead of the crucial limited-overs tour to India.

"I have ended my contract in the Big Bash league, because I want to play in the national event to improve my form and justify my selection in the team," said Afridi, who played for Melbourne Renegades in the inaugural edition of the Big Bash League last year.

Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene has lavished praise on Rangana Herath saying the left-arm orthodox bowler is the second-best spinner he has played with after spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan, the most successful Test bowler in the history.

Rangana Herath claimed his second 10-wicket haul of the year ( 11 for 108) in the first Test against New Zealand, at Galle to help the hosts script a ten-wicket crushing over the Black Caps.

"After Murali ... he is the next best thing. Others have chipped in but Rangana has become the leading bowler for us," said Jayawardene at the post-match press conference after the crushing win. "Because of the pressure he is creating on the opposition and the way he's performed, it has enabled us to be consistent in Test cricket in the last two years or so," he added further.
